US Trading FAQ

What is W-8BEN/W-9 Form?

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) W-8BEN/W-9 Form is an external form that helps us verify whether you're a U.S. person and your related tax status.

It serves as a self-certification under the United States Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). This form has to be completed before placing any trade in the U.S. Markets.

What is the difference between W-8BEN and W-9 Forms?

W-8 is for foreigners

W-9 is for U.S. citizens or legal residents for different tax purposes. W-9 validity depends on the accuracy of the information provided and has no official expiration date.

Re-submission of W-8BEN may be required if you are exempted as a U.S. person and there are changes to your U.S. Indicia (e.g. U.S. address, contact numbers, etc).

Submission of W-9 is required if you are not exempted as a U.S. person and there are any changes to your U.S. Indicia (e.g. U.S. address, contact numbers, etc). W-9 is required if you wish to liquidate your U.S. shares.
